From 5th to 8th of October, the latest Bulgarian films will be presented in Popovo
Due to the large number of films that passed through the selection committee and were included in the competition program, the organizing team decided to start the screenings and the official opening of the festival one day earlier, namely on October 5 /Wednesday/ 2022.
Preparations are in full swing for the 11th edition of the “Golden Eye” cinematography festival, in memory of the great Bulgarian cameraman Dimo Kolarov.
The festival will be held from October 5 to 8, 2022 in the city of Popovo – Dimo Kolarov’s hometown, where productions from contemporary national and international cinema will be presented, with a public screening from the last two years – from July 2020 to July 2022 The organizer is the Municipality of Popovo, as its co-organizers are: the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers, UVT and the Ministry of Culture – IA “National Film Center”.
The deadline for Bulgarian operators to apply expired on July 31. The selection committee of the “Golden Eye” festival, consisting of: Prof. Dr. Mihail Meltev – director, Hristo Kovachev – cameraman and Lyudmila Dyakova – film critic, reviewed the films applied for participation in the festival and admitted 17 feature films – full-length and short-length, 10 documentaries and 7 student films. The program for their presentation has already been arranged. The accompanying program is in the process of being specified, which will include round tables with topics related to the cinematographer’s guild – optimal use of the budget and advertising of the production, presentations of equipment and working with it, photo exhibitions, etc.
The jury that will evaluate the films has the following composition: chairman: Emil Topuzov – a modern Bulgarian cameraman, and members: Prof. Dr. Tsvetan Nedkov – teaches cinema and television cameramanship, Alexandru Sterian from Romania – a cameraman with extensive experience and teacher in Cinematography, Associate Professor Dr. Andronika Màrtonova – film critic, researcher in the field of theory and history of cinema, and Nikolay Mutafchiev – film director, producer and actor.
